That’s How You Make Me Feel When I’m There — Loved

Nov 12, 2025

I asked one of my students to share what my retreats have meant to her. She’s been twice now — and was one of four returnees out of ten participants at the last retreat. (If you like them, you come back!)

She told me that on her first Find That Pause retreat, she was nervous. Although she’d met me previously at a workshop, she didn’t know anyone else. Like so many of us, she carries a lot in her day-to-day life, so taking time for herself felt both exciting and a little guilt-inducing.

But once she experienced it, she understood the value. She said her husband and son now know she’ll come home with more energy and presence for them — and she knows that slowing down, resting, and being cared for isn’t selfish; it’s deeply healing and as she said "she deserves that."

She came back for her second retreat not because she needed to fix anything, but because she wanted to return to that feeling — self-love.

D went home after her second retreat feeling full — calm, grounded, and ready to bring those tools into her everyday life.

“When I came home, my family noticed the difference. I used what I learned with my son when he was struggling — we took a pause together, breathed, and grounded. That’s the biggest gift of this experience: learning to model calm and compassion for the people I love.”

She also told me:

“The self-compassion you teach — that language isn’t instinctual. I can say it to my son or a friend, but not always to myself. You model what it looks like to treat yourself with kindness, and that’s my favorite part — learning how to bring that into my own life.”

At my retreats, I do teach mindfulness techniques — but you learn the most by experiencing them. You see how simple, everyday moments can become anchors of calm. You feel your nervous system soften as you slow down. You remember what it’s like to listen — to yourself, to others, and to the quiet wisdom within.

That’s what this work is about.
It’s about remembering who you are beneath the busyness — and reconnecting with that grounded, loving part of yourself.

D said it best:

“That’s how you make me feel when I’m there — loved.”
